When I was in third grade the teacher read us The Little Match Girl from a picture book without having prior known what it was. Everyone agreed: the story was awful. I understand the purpose of sad stories, but I can't help but feel Mr. Anderson dropped the ball there. Sad stories need a purpose beyond "Surprise! There's no moral"
