Educate Yourself With Bruce And Roos: Word Balloon by RickGriffin Educate Yourself With Bruce And Roos: Word Balloon by RickGriffin
Okay so it turns out my biggest pet peeve with amateur comics is people not knowing what proper reading order for word balloons is. You can’t just put them wherever is most convenient for the rest of the picture, unfortunately.

Naturally, this applies to English, manga has its reading priority facing the top-right of the panel instead, and tends to finish columns before continuing rows, on account of the native top-bottom right-left writing direction. (Though they still group panels into rows instead of columns, mind)

oh this is pretty useful, I'll probably look at this occasionally if I get confused with where I should put speech balloons in comics.

Oh this is great! Just what I needed!

I've always found comics somewhat confusing to read and just baffling to draw.

I wish to thank you for making this informative comic. I may not be an artist or author myself, but it is good to see people who are willing to go out of their way to try and help others learn good comic making practices so they have some reference in the creation of their comics in order make them an easier read and thus more enjoyable. Once again, thank you.

Very well presented. Maybe you could slowly add color to it over a period of time.

The reverse is true when you are reading manga.  This is because the Japaneese writing tends to go right to left.

Ha, this is great! I've read so many that didn't follow these rules that I've gotten pretty good at following unconventional word-bubbles, not sure if that's a good or bad thing though.

Enlightening. By the way, reading order is a very common reason why manga is mirrored before the word balloons are translated.

I always did then top most is first then left to right if word bubbles are on the same level, but I can see some instances where that could be a problem.

Some amateur comic are really a pain to read because that.

And it's for that it's important to plan what you will do before you draw it. ;)
